Growing up, my favorite Christmas song was probably Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I loved the little interjections. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you obviously don't sing the song right. Rudolph was loads more fun than Frosty the snowman with his corn cob pipe and his button nose.
I love the Grinch, but the lyrics to You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch are kind of icky. "Your brain is fully of spiders, you've got garlic in your soul." I don't know about you, but seasick crocodiles don't put me into the holiday spirit.
I've never been able to get the 12 Days of Christmas right and the kid who sings I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus has always annoyed me. Wait, that was Michael Jackson, huh? Sorry, not sorry.
Then, there are the songs that I have always considered to be for old people. O Holy Night, Silent Night, and Deck the Halls are great and all, but not my favorites.
My favorite Christmas song isn't childish or for old people. It appeared on Mean Girls. It doesn't repulse me after hearing it over and over. And, every time I hear it, I know that Christmas will be here soon.
