Musical Obsessions

I often go through musical phases where I will listen to the same song over and over and then just stop listening to it for the longest time.  For awhile, I hadn't been listening to much of anything other than Christian music because my iPod's battery has basically died. It lasts for about...a minute.  I can play my iPod in my car, but it's just easier not to and just play the radio.

About a month or so ago, I decided to change the station to Country music.  I guess I was feeling nostalgic or something because I grew up listening to Country music.  Whatever the reason, it catapulted my to listen to a variety of things again.

Tonight, when driving home, I scanned through stations trying to find the right song so much it was ridiculous.  The problem with the radio is, there are very few songs that I actually like that are being played.  Mainstream music.  Blech.  I'm such a hipster.

Here are a few of my current musical obsessions:

Rarely do I ever listen to Eminem, or rap for that matter.  The number of Eminem songs that I like could probably be counted on one hand.  But this song, it's just so powerful.  I actually found it when I was looking at the Top 40 lists in France for a project I'm working on.  It's strange that a majority of their Top 40 songs are American songs.  Because the title has to do with monsters, I HAD to listen to it and then fell in love.

This song. I really need to just go ahead and download this song.  A LONG time ago, I heard this song at the gym and was like "I know this song.  I love this song." and then it was stuck in my head for days.  I never did download it then and now it's back in my head.  Maybe I'll go download it now.  Maybe not.  Either way, it's a great song and I'm glad it keeps coming back into my life.

If you saw me in my car and this song was playing, you would notice two things.
1.  My volume is up WAYYYYYYY too loud.
2.  I cannot sit still during this song.
I love pretty much anything Luke Bryan.  His songs are super catchy and fun to sing.  I just wish I had some country roads I could drive down while listening to him. Instead, I get to drive down a traffic filled freeway at 30 mph.

What have you been listening to?

TBT: High School Playlist

When I was in high school, I begged and begged my parents for a SanDisk Sansa MP3 Player.  For some reason, I was anti-apple products back then.  Maybe it's because I knew there was no way my parents would spend that much money for something I was likely to lose.

That year, for Christmas, I got just what I wanted.  It was from eBay, slightly used, but it was perfect.  Plus, it already had some songs on it the previous user had not taken off.  I didn't like most of them, but one stuck with me.  Me & U by Cassie.

I mainly used the MP3 player for the radio while I walked home from school, because I didn't understand how to use Limewire, when it was popular. Actually, I still don't know how to use Limewire.  Do people even use that still? ANYWAYS!

Every once in awhile, for some reason, I would opt to listen to the previous owner's music instead.  I thought I was so cool listening to the song by Cassie.  Like I was getting away with something, like most 15 year old kids do.

To this day, I don't think my parents ever knew I listened to that song.  I don't even know if they have even heard the song themselves at all!

BTW! I put together a playlist of some of the songs I would listen to in high school. Enjoy!

Songs That Define Me!

Helene in Between

Helene from Helene in Between is hosting a link up today! And it's about music.  Yes, please!

I found Helene's blog not to long ago when she commented on some of my posts and I have been following her ever since.  Her posts are really interesting and I recommend you go read some after you are done listening to the songs that define me. ;]

Songs That Remind Me of High School

Did any of you use playlist.com before iPods got super popular? I spent so much time on that website, adding songs that I loved and organizing them just right.  I would listen to that playlist everyday, to the point where my dad knew the songs perfectly and comment on how much he didn't really like them.

Unfortunately, Playlist.com has become more like Pandora, internet radio and while I have the playlist on my iPod, I just realized the songs are not in the right order.  Luckily, even though the playlist isn't able to play correctly, they still have the right order!

Some of the songs on the playlist included, but were definitely not limited to:

Songs That Remind Me of My Dad

Because he heard me listening to that playlist all the time, my dad apparently thought I liked Katy Perry, which I totally didn't at the time! He got me her CD for Christmas, and I was all like "Uh. Thanks, Dad." Then I listened to the entire CD and loved her. Any Katy Perry song reminds me of him for this reason.

My favorite was:

 Karoake

My sister enjoys preforming and does community theater and all that jazz.  When she was little, she was given a karoake machine by my ex-grandfather and she loved that thing.  We had little kid songs because she was like seven at the time and we had other songs, like One Week by the Barenaked Ladies, which is incredibly hard to sing, Complicated by Avril and Disney princess songs. OH YEAH.

My favorite song, because I thought I was bomb at singing it, was:

OUR Song

When the boy and I first got together, he played REALLY random radio stations while we were in the car.  He claims it was because he didn't know what I liked listening to.  Genres would be anything from Top 40 to Country and I mean ANYTHING.

During that time, Lady Antebellum's song, Just a Kiss was played ALL THE TIME.  Now it's our song.

Every time I hear it,  it reminds me of the days when I didn't know how to drive and he would take me home from school.

-cue the awwww's-

Songs I Have to Listen to with the Bestie

My best friend has a tendency to play the same songs over and over and over.
Last semester, we had basically all the same classes so we carpooled to school everyday.

The most played songs were:

Favorite Songs

These are the songs that I will NEVER skip.
Anything by Linkin Park or All Time Low.

But also, Blink 182.

This song instantly makes me smile.

Songs That I ALWAYS Skip

But can't bring myself to delete.  I have every Beatles song on my iPod, but I will actually listen to five? maybe. I like the songs, but I also have to be in the mood to listen to them usually. Plus, some of them are just really weird and I kind of got Beatles'd out when working at Blockbuster. It was all we ever listened to.

I also usually skip most of my old Country. This one, I don't know why.  Those songs remind me of childhood. (The Garth Brooks song isn't THAT old, but...nostalgia.)

Or my Classical/Piano music, which I use mainly to focus on homework when it's really loud around me.

I hope you enjoyed my song choices!

Don't forget to link up with Helene!

Pretty Amazing v.5

  • I'm taking public transportation today.  Okay so most people who know me know that I do NOT like public transportation.  People tend to creep me out, mainly the ones that look as if they have been doing drugs or drinking alcohol since they were 13, but still. I like to try to avoid public transportation at all costs (if you really want to know the whole backstory of my issues, just ask) ANYWAYS Because parking in San Francisco is ridiculous and it takes forever to drive there, I will be taking public transportation. By. Myself. Pretty amazing.
  • Heather. I just met this awesome lady earlier this week.  Sunday, I think? Either way, all of her sponsorship money is going directly to charity to help fight cancer.  I love donating to charities and feeling like I'm helping the world out a little bit. Plus, you get ad space and other mystery gifts! Check it out!
  • I still can't get over how much better at art I've been becoming! Look at my second painting! It's a work in progress, but that green vase! <3
  • God's Not Dead - Newsboys. This song makes me wish I was able to connect my iPod to my car stereo (I don't even have a cassette dock, what the crap?).  I can just picture myself blasting it and rocking out to it on repeat I love it that much. Also, my three year old cousin loves it. How cute is that?

What have you been finding pretty amazing lately?

Sunday Social

Linking up with Neely and Ashley again for another Sunday Social!

1. What were you like in Middle School/HS?(pictures)

In high school, I was VERY quiet.  I've always been a listener, not much of a talker. I got great grades and I was completely awkward, like most people. I didn't know how to dress properly or do my hair or make up, but does anybody?
I wouldn't trade my experience for anything though.  It has shaped who I am today.
I would be lying if i didn't say that I just spent about an hour trying to get on MySpace to grab some old pictures from my high school years!
Once I finally got signed it, so many memories flooded my mind.
Inside jokes, memories.
Unfortunately, I didn't find the picture that I was really looking for, but these will do.

2.  What were your favorite past times?

Honestly, I didn't do much back in high school..
I went to school. I did homework. I cooked, I cleaned. I listened to music.
It wasn't until my later years that I became obsessed with photography.

3. What songs were you obsessed with?(Backstreet Boys anyone?)

Let's get one thing straight, I did NOT like the Backstreet Boys. Haha
I did however like Boys Like Girls. :]
I actually have my old playlist from when I was like 15 saved on my iPod.
The top ten songs were...

In The End - Linkin Park
Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
Love Story - Taylor Swift
Crush - David Archuleta
Juliet - LMNT
Sk8er Boi - Avril Lavigne
Thunder - Boys Like Girls
My Immortal - Evanescence
I'm Yours - Jason Mraz
Be My Escape - Reliant K
I'm afraid this list doesn't show the variety of what I listen to though.
I tend to listen to everything from Top 40's to Christian. Country to Rap. Classical to you get the idea. EVERYTHING.

4. What fashion statement do you look back on and cringe?

Sweat Pants. In Middle School, I had some preconceived notion that I couldn't wear jeans and I wore sweat pants ALL the time. That could not have been pretty. I'm sure.

5. Who was your celeb crush?
Like many girls, I had a crush on Taylor Lautner for like, ever.
Unlike many girls, I didn't not like Twilight. At all.
Only recently did I change my celeb crush to Andrew Garfield.
HOWEVER, Chace Crawford will always have a place in my heart.

6. What were your favorite tv shows/movies?
I watched Disney Channel, wayyy too much. That means Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zach and Cody. You know, all those terrible shows that made kid shows how horrible they are today?
As for favorite movies...Finding Nemo. Pirates of the Caribbean. The Notebook. They haven't really changed either.

I hope everyone is having an awesome weekend and I hope you join us next week for another Sunday Social!

Musical Findings: Mumford and Sons + Luke Bryan

I've heard it said that music taste comes from what your parents listen to because that's what you experience while you grow up.  Makes sense, right? Unless a person is completely rebellious and goes against this rule, I think so.

Between my two parents, they listen to EVERYTHING.  So do I.  My dad loves Rock, Metal, Ska, some Country, etc. My mom? She's a Christian/Country/Rock/Pop/Retro lady. Growing up, we usually listened to Country, sometimes a little rock.  A lot of 80's pop while cleaning the house (Pat Benatar and The Bangles, anyone?) Later, my aunt introduced me to "current" music, or what was current when I was in 6th Grade (Avril, Eminem, etc.)

After I moved back to California, I stopped listening to the radio, or when I did, it was Christian music because I was in either my grandma's or my aunt's car (a different aunt, who also has good music taste, but chooses to listen to Christian or little kid songs because her kids are 3 and 5). Anyways, I haven't listened to anything recent, in so long! I'm so out of the loop.

So, when I ran across multiple blogs mentioning Mumford and Sons and Luke Bryan, I had no idea who they were! Which I find silly because I really like them.

Here are some music videos of some of my favorite songs right now!

This song was written in memory of the shooting in Colorado.  It was written, recorded, and released the same day.  I'm a sucker for acoustic guitar and the voices and message are beautiful.

Now, help catch me up! Comment with links to songs that I should listen to!

Anddd don't forget that I listen to pretty much anything, so don't worry about what genre it is or anything.
