Operation Get Fit #2

source
Happy Groundhog's Day guys! (and SuperBowl Day, but that's not important right now.  So, if you don't know about Punxsutawney Phil, then you have probably been living under a rock all of your life.  Every year on February 2nd, Phil comes out of his hole to let us know if we are going to have six more weeks of Winter or if Spring is on it's way.  I'm sorry to announce, but Phil saw his shadow today and we will be having six more weeks of Winter.  Who didn't see that coming? My sincerest apologies to all of you who live in snow filled lands.

Honestly, I can't believe it's already February.  I know, people say that every month, but I'm serious.  It feels like we were unwrapping all of our gifts and talking about feasts and trees only yesterday!  Oh wait.  That was yesterday... (birthdays and Superbowl talk).  Anyways, I finally remembered which Sunday Sarah does her Operation Get Fit Linkup so I'm linking up with her today!

At the beginning of January, my aunt came over and asked me if I wanted to join Weight Watchers with her.  I was terrified.  I didn't want people knowing the number that showed up on the scale every week.  I had hidden it for so long.  Telling people what the scale said was made the number real.   Going to these meetings would mean facing my fears and starting to change things that were in my control, despite what I thought in the past.

The first day I was supposed to go to the meeting with her, I was sick.  The day before, I ate some salami and acid decided my throat was a good place to live for awhile.  It wasn't and I'm still suffering from the cough that developed because of it.  Also, I blacked out at Sweet Tomatoes when the boyfriend and I went to lunch that day..so yeah.  Didn't really seem like a great day to start something that terrified me.

I called my mom that night and she was like "Why didn't you go with your aunt!?  This is something we both need to do. " I told her I would definitely go the next week.

The next week rolled around and my aunt completely abandoned the Weight Watcher idea.  Instead, she wanted to try this thing called TOPS.  Taking Off Pounds Sensibly.  We went to one of their meetings and it was incredibly awkward.  Besides us, everyone there was at least 50 years old and I felt like I was in a high school club again with the minutes and the calling on people. No thank you.

Now, every Saturday morning, my aunt comes over and we have our own meeting.  We write down everybody's weight, which still terrifies me, even the people who are participating in the meeting.  ie. My grandpa and my uncle.  And then my aunt, grandma and I discuss what went well for us this week.  We come up with some goals for the coming week and then she tells us what she learned at Weight Watchers that week.  Quick, simple, no high school club minutes.

As terrifying as it is, I really needed some people to keep me accountable.  Whenever I go to the gym, I text my mom, which in my mind, helps her go as well.  I've been trying to go three times a week.  It happened this past week!

Also, my "food goal" is to write down everything that I eat. I don't count calories or anything like that.  I just write down what I ate.  Doing so has really helped me realize how much junk I eat.  I've cut my portion sizes and I don't eat out nearly as much as I was.  It helps that my school schedule doesn't allow it.

Since we started the meetings four weeks ago, I have lost around 6 pounds!!! I say around because our scale is messed up.  It will go from 206 to 198.  That range isn't exactly accurate...

Ummmmm 6 pounds is incredible. I am a firm believer that you have to do what works for YOU!! If public meetings don't work, that is totally ok! Find something that does!
